Ian couldn’t believe he’d actually been able to doze off, but when he woke up to the sudden reality that she was close, he was thrown into a frenzy of pacing and hissing.

“What the hell, Ian?” Beltar asked as he was startled awake.

“She’s coming,” he snapped. “I can feel her getting closer by the second. She’s searching for me, using my blood to find us.”

“But why, and how the hell does she know to do that?” Beltar questioned.

“Someone must be helping her. Maybe she’s in danger,” he hissed, cursing the sun that still shone far too bright to risk.

“Or someone’s using her to find us and kill us while the sun’s up,” Prat said sleepily.

“Sorcha knows,” Samson said confidently. “She’s helping. I can sense her nearing as well.”

“What if they are bringing the whole damn clan to attack us?” Beltar hissed with sudden concern.

“No, it feels—” Ian stopped, not wanting to share the intimate things that were happening in his body at the moment. He met Samson's gaze momentarily and knew he was experiencing something similar. The knowledge that she was getting closer paired with the draw of his blood rushing through her veins. He was on edge for a lot of reasons, not all of them appropriate to share with his men. “It feels like desperation and fear. If she was coming to attack, it would be anger and betrayal,” he finally said as explanation and Samson nodded agreement.

“You think she fell in love with you in a day and now seeks you out in the middle of nowhere, away from certain safety behind stone walls,” Prat said with a laugh. “And how was the lady’s—” his words were cut off by Samson’s fist and it was the only thing that saved him from Ian tearing him apart.

“I don’t know why she’s coming; I just know she is, and quickly,” he gritted out.

They all waited silently, no one sure what to expect when the women arrived.
